Miami, FL (July 25th, 2005) - Qingdao, the city that will be hosting all of the sailing events for the 2008 China Olympics, announced today that they have agreed to become a sponsor of the 2005 Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.

“The fact that the 2008 Chinese Olympics has recognized Miami’s premier Dragon Boat race with this sponsorship is an indication of how we have grown and the recognition that Miami is truly an international city,” said Mr. Joe Chi, President of the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Race. The Qingdao Olympic Committee was enthusiastic and delighted to become part of this event in South Florida.

The Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival will take place on Brickell Key and throughout the Brickell Road area on October 22nd and 23rd, 2005. A portion of the race course traverses under the bridge that connects Brickell Key with the mainland. Two of the lanes of the bridge are closed so that fans can stand on the bridge as dragon boat teams race a few feet under them. It is the closest any fan can get to athletes while they are competing in a rowing event!

The weekend activities will include fantastic entertainment featuring the cast from Moonstone Circus now based in St. Augustine. These professionals astound audiences all over the world with their athletic abilities to put their bodies into seemingly impossible positions. In addition, there will be live music and other entertainment. All entertainment and racing events are free and open to the Public.

The Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat VIP Club at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel is a special part of the event. The $200 Club Membership includes great food and beverage with an outstanding view of the racing for the weekend.

“Miami’s Chinese community is thrilled to be hosting the 2008 China Olympic delegation that will be attending our Dragon Boat race”, said Jeanny Lei, President of the Miami Overseas Chinese Association, the Organization that owns the Miami Hong Kong Dragon Boat Race.” “We will show them the best of our beautiful City and learn about their Olympic Plans”, said President Lei.

Qingdao’s Olympic events will take place on Fushan Bay in eastern China's Shandong Province. A brand new venue including new roads, buildings and hotels are being developed for the 2008 Olympics. Information about the 2008 China Olympics can be found at http://en.olympic.cn.
